FAQs

Dear WPLL Families,

Welcome to another exciting season with West Pasadena Little League!

Whether you're joining us for the first time or returning to the field, we’re thrilled to have you as part of our growing community. This year marks another step forward in our mission to create a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment where children learn not just baseball—but teamwork, confidence, and sportsmanship.

Our league has been a Pasadena tradition since 1952, rooted in the belief that every child deserves the chance to play, grow, and have fun. With over 75 players last season and record-breaking interest in our T-Ball division, we are proud to see more families than ever choosing WPLL.

Here’s what you can expect this season:

Skill Development: From our T-Ball introductory teams to competitive play in our older divisions, our coaching is focused on age-appropriate instruction, confidence-building, and fun.

Family Involvement: Parents and guardians are the backbone of our league. Whether you volunteer as a coach, Dugout Manager, Snack Captain, or cheer from the stands, your presence matters.

Safe, Structured Play: We are committed to safety, respect, and fun in everything we do. All coaches and volunteers are trained and screened, and our games are built around positive reinforcement and clear developmental goals.

Community Growth: From Opening Day festivities to community events and team celebrations, WPLL is more than baseball—it’s a place to belong.

Please make sure to check your email and our website regularly for practice schedules, game updates, and league-wide news. Follow us on social media to see highlights and announcements, and don’t hesitate to reach out to your coaches or board members with any questions or ideas.

Thank you for choosing West Pasadena Little League. We’re honored to be a part of your child’s journey—on and off the field.

Let’s have a season full of laughter, learning, and lasting memories.

REGISTRATION FAQs

I missed the deadline. Can I still register?

If team drafts and assessments are complete, late registration is waitlist-only. We fill openings as they arise due to cancellations. If we’re unable to place your player, we’ll refer you to a nearby league that may still have spots.

What areas does WPLL serve?

WPLL serves players who live or go to school within our official Little League boundaries. You can check your eligibility on our League Boundaries below.

We live outside the boundaries. Can we still play for WPLL?

Only if you meet one of the following:

  • Your child attends school within WPLL boundaries (requires a completed School Enrollment Form signed by the school).
  • You do not reside in an area served by any other Little League.
  • You obtain a Little League Residency Waiver due to special circumstances.

Which division should I register for?

Use the Little League Age Chart on our website to determine your child’s "league age." The system will automatically suggest a division, but final placement—especially in Farm and above—is determined by skills assessments.

When will I find out my player’s team?

Team managers reach out by mid- January. If you haven’t heard anything by two weeks after Draft Day, please contact us.

When do practices and games start?

Practices typically begin in early to mid-January. Games kick off on Opening Day, usually the last Saturday in February or the first Saturday in March.

What equipment does my player need?

WPLL provides:

  • Team jersey
  • League hat

Families are responsible for:

  • Glove
  • Baseball pants
  • Cleats
  • Bat (USA Baseball stamped)
  • Helmet (optional if using shared)
  • Cup (required for all catchers)
  • Socks, belt, and undershirt (colors announced after uniform orders)

***If equipment is a financial burden on your family, WPLL will provide what you need (DON'T LET LACK OF EQUIPMENT STOP YOU FROM PLAYING)

How do I pay?

All payments are made securely through our online registration platform via credit card.

Are skills assessments required?

Yes— AA, AAA, Majors, and Juniors, all players must attend assessments, including returning players. Assessments help us place players in the right division and ensure fair team distribution. Tee Ball  & Farm players do not need to attend assessments.

Why does WPLL use a draft system for team formation?

The draft allows us to build balanced, competitive teams and protect player safety. It ensures kids are playing with and against others of similar ability, and gives all players a fair shot at development.

Can I request specific coaches or teammates?

We try to accommodate requests up through Tee Ball and Farm. Once players enter Minors and higher, team assignments are made through a draft, so requests are not guaranteed. If you want more control, volunteer to manage a team—managers draft their own rosters.

Do I have to re-submit documents every year?

Yes. Per Little League International, we require annual documentation of age and residency. Rules require leagues to keep updated records to maintain charter compliance and tournament eligibility.

Can I choose my practice day or work around other activities?

No. Practice and game schedules are set based on coach availability, field assignments, and league-wide logistics. If you want influence over your schedule, volunteer to manage a team.

What documents are needed for registration?

Each player must upload three unique documents proving residency (or one School Enrollment Form if using school-based eligibility). Acceptable proof includes:

  • Utility bills
  • Vehicle registration
  • Lease or mortgage statement
  • Government-issued ID
  • Only one utility bill may be used, and all documents must be dated within the past year.

Volunteers (We Need You!)

Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in this entry level of Little League. After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, umpires, local league board members and other volunteer positions within the league.

How to Volunteer:

  • Register as a Volunteer when signing up your player—or go to our Volunteer Form  if you're signing up separately.
  • All on-field roles require a background check, Abuse Awareness training, and may include fingerprinting depending on your role. We’ll walk you through it.
  • All coaches will be required to complete the Diamond Leadership training program
  • Not sure where to help? Just ask. We’ll match your availability and skills to the league’s needs.

Become a Sponsor

WPLL is a nonprofit league that keeps registration fees low thanks to the generosity of local sponsors and donors. Sponsorships help us cover critical expenses like:

  • Equipment and uniforms
  • Field permits and maintenance
  • Insurance and safety supplies
  • Umpires, trophies, and tournament fees

Sponsorship is a great way to support youth sports while promoting your business to hundreds of local families. Whether you're a local business owner, part of a larger company, or just a neighbor who wants to help—your support makes a direct impact.
